Summer Family Wellness Tips

Summertime is here and it’s my favorite time of the year. It’s a time for picking blueberries, making my favorite peach jam recipe, sunbathing at the beach and connecting with friends and family.
Listed below are some of my best health and wellness tips to help you kickstart your summer:
Get Your Berry Bliss Boost.
Visit your local farmers market or local farm and pick or buy strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. These berries are loaded with antioxidants such as vitamin C, Vitamin, A, zinc and selenium. Antioxidants help prevent damage to tissues and reduce the risks of age-related illnesses.
Cool Yourself.
To help stay cool during the summer eat cooling foods such as strawberries, watermelon, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and mint.
Saturate Yourself With Vitamin D.
Get outside for at least 15 minutes a day and allow the sunshine to saturate your skin (don’t forget your sunscreen, of course). Sunshine is the best way to get adequate Vitamin D, which helps boost your immune system, improves your mood and helps prevent many diseases.
Hydrate.
Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day. The rule of thumb is to drink ½ your weight in ounces of water daily. My favorite summer time drink is water, with fresh mint leaves, slices of cucumber and lime juice.
Get Dirty.
Play in the dirt by planting some herbs or your favorite vegetables in a garden or container. Also take your shoes off and walk in the grass or sand at the beach. Feeling the earth and dirt on your skin can be very grounding or centering. These activities can also balance your root chakra.
Connect/Play With Family, Friends and Neighbors.
Summer is a great time to connect with others, especially with people in your neighborhood.
And most of all, enjoy your summer!
