If you’ve been affiliated with our salon in the past, it should come as no surprise that we care deeply about protecting the earth. Since 2005, Spa Bleu has raised $103,446 for clean water projects locally and globally. We’ve done events like a Trashion Show, recycling waste into fashion; a 5k Walk for Water to raise money for The Alliance of the Great Lakes; our staff volunteers abroad; and volunteering with local churches. We are also an Aveda salon and Aveda has been at the forefront of protecting and embracing nature since its founding 40 years ago. Since 2007, Aveda has collectively raised an astounding $38 million to support clean water initiatives worldwide.
Nature OR nurture? We’re nurtured BY nature. That’s why we feel so strongly about protecting it.
Five years ago, we decided to take things up a notch and take our sustainability efforts full circle by becoming a Green Circle Salon. Green Circle Salons is a full-service salon sustainability solution that allows us to recover up to 95% of what we previously considered waste. That includes things like hair, leftover hair color, foils, color tubes, aerosol cans, paper and plastics. For example, in 2010, Green Circles Salons sent more than 1,000 pounds of hair to the Gulf of Mexico to aid in the BP oil spill clean-up. In five years, Spa Bleu sent over 3,000 pounds of solid waste and excess color by-product to Green Circle to be recycled and repurposed.
This is one of the events we held in April to raise money for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
As we enter our sixth year with Green Circle Salons, we are intent on refining and expanding our sustainability efforts. Every April we host several events in aid of a clean water initiative that helps the Alliance for the Great Lakes—keeping our efforts local, too. Spa Bleu is passionate about protecting the world we live in, and working with Green Circle Salons has allowed us to take that passion full circle.
