Raise your hand if you’re over the “New year, new you!” memes that have been flooding your feed. We get it—a new year is great for a fresh start — but we think you’re awesome the way you are. With that said, sometimes you want a change, but that doesn’t mean you have to commit to a new hair color or dramatic chop. Here are five subtle, but impactful beauty changes that can really update your look!
SWITCH YOUR PART
It’s quick and easy and you can do it RIGHT NOW. A center part can help a round face look narrower, with more defined bone structure. A side part can widen slim faces, while a deep side swoop brings the attention to your eyes. Start by parting above your brow on your “good side.” (We all have one—and we bet you know what yours is.) That is almost universally flattering.
GET BOLD WITH LIP COLOR
Most of us have a comfort zone in makeup, but there are so many other colors you could rock. Your best bet is to experiment with different shades and talk to a licensed makeup artist. At Spa Bleu’s locations in West Dundee and South Barrington, we have both—a huge selection of Aveda Feed My Lips glosses, balms, lipsticks and liners, and makeup artists on hand to give you advice. Come in and play!
Bangs are great for people who want a big change in their hair without losing a lot of length. No matter what your texture, you CAN wear bangs. The trick is to let your stylist determine what type of fringe will work for you. What you have in mind is not always achievable with your hair texture and type, but for most people, bangs are an option. Don’t forget to ask your stylist for tips on how to style them.
ADD FACE-FRAMING HIGHLIGHTS
Nothing like a few subtle highlights enhancing your face to leave people acknowledging you look amazing, but not quite able to pinpoint why. Try going two or three shades lighter than your hair’s current shade to help your eyes pop, add life and dimension to your color, and brighten your features.
FILL-IN YOUR BROWS
The big brow trend is not going anywhere, and luckily the brow fill-in is an easy art to master. Aveda has a Brow Definer that’s an all-in-one tool with a spoolie on one end and a vegan, smudge-proof, fade-proof, everything-proof brow pencil on the other.
Match your brow color to your hair roots. Brush your brows into shape. Starting at the inner corners and working outwards, apply firmly using short, quick strokes that mimic natural hairs. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it makes. A bold brow enhances your eyes, your bone structure, and your self-confidence. And again, if you need help, just walk into any Spa Bleu and ask our makeup artist to show you how it’s done!
After you’ve tried all these little changes, guess what—if you’re still itching for more of a dramatic transformation, we can help you with that too. Whether entering the new year as a New You or as the old you with a few new twists—we think you’re amazing!
